In Sudeshna Roy-Abhijit Guha’s fun film Bitnoon, which released on Friday, Gargi Roy Chowdhury and Ritwick Chakraborty play Mou and Rahul, an ever-bickering husband and wife. The fizz has gone out of their marriage... till a second woman — Saayoni Ghosh — makes an entry and peps things up. The trio chatted with t2 at Tea Trove in Deshapriya Park about what adds spice to married life and the role of the other woman.

The role of the other woman in Bitnoon is to add spice to a marriage. Gargi and Ritwick, did you ever need bitnoon (rock salt) in marriage?
Gargi: I know in today’s interview Ritwick and I will be made the scapegoat!
Ritwick: I haven’t yet needed any spice to pep up my marriage. My marriage (with Aparajita Ghosh) is very spicy! But generally marriage needs spice from time to time. My general knowledge says that I might need bitnoon in my marriage too because we all know that with time boredom sets in. My time hasn’t come yet though!
Gargi: My marriage is fine too but I don’t mind spicing it up a bit and I don’t mind even if the spice is missing sometimes. My husband (Ashok Dasgupta) and I are very good friends. My husband is an extremely colourful person and hence there’s a lot of spice.

Saayoni, you play the other woman...
Gargi: Yes she is the woh between the pati and patni (played by Gargi and Ritwick)!
Saayoni: Yes, the other woman, the devil! Except for the man! I mean, the man she is in a relationship with. Other than him, everyone looks down upon her.

What are your views about the other woman, personally?
Saayoni: I think it’s very exciting to be the other woman! In every marriage there should be another woman just to spice things up! The other woman is the one who has very high TRP! LOL
Gargi: I’m sure once you get married your views will change.
Saayoni: See, I don’t mind being the other woman in someone’s life. There’s no problem as long as the person is giving me all the attention. The idea is very exciting, moja hobe!
Gargi: Yes, the idea is always exciting but in real life...
Saayoni: It’s interesting and people should look forward to becoming the other woman because it’s very exciting to be one!

Are you one in real life?
Saayoni: No, not yet! Doesn’t mean that I will never be one. I am game!
Gargi: Babare! Khobordaar!

Gargi and Ritwick, do you agree with Saayoni that it’s fun to be the other woman?
Gargi: I strongly believe that in any relationship the real spice is somewhere within the relationship. If that is there then whether there’s another woman or a man in my partner’s life, it doesn’t matter. I believe that for any relationship to sustain there must be mutual respect. If that is there then even if your husband has a thousand girlfriends you won’t be bothered. My husband has a lot of girlfriends and it’s me who reminds him to buy them a gift on their birthdays because he is bad with dates. That’s because the magic and spice is there in our marriage.

Are you okay with one-night stands?
Ritwick: I don’t support it. Probably I’ll try to find out why it happened.
Gargi: One-night stands will never happen in my life!
Saayoni: It’s not a good thing. If my husband or boyfriend does it then I’ll have a problem. And if I do it then I’ll never tell him!
