Nearly 150 ex-students of MCKV Institute of Engineering went back to campus recently for the annual reunion, Nostalgia 2015, held in association with The Telegraph.
“The term ‘nostalgia’ itself made us nostalgic. This event was just like birds coming back to their nest after a hectic day’s work. Our alma mater is like a second home to all of us, which we realise long after our student life ends,” said K.K. Kejriwal, managing trustee, MCKV Institute of Engineering.
The ex-students participated in the reunion with much enthusiasm and vivacity. They elected seven office-bearers for the MCKVIE Alumni Association and a total of 21 alumni were nominated to the executive committee.
“We are proud to organise this meet, which will be held every year. This initiative creates nostalgia among the ex-students and helps them keep in touch with their peers. This networking will definitely add value to our college and help it scale greater heights,” said Parasar Bandyopadhyay, the director of the institute. The evening ended with a musical performance and dinner.
You know it’s world cup season when...
Now that we’ve got a taste of winning and the #WontGiveItBack hashtag is trending, here’s a list of things we see on and off campuses that scream World Cup:
•Even the goody-goody types bunk college or come in late because they were watching the match or timed their commute to match the innings break.
•People make it to the first class more often so that they can miss a few of the later classes and watch the second innings. You need the attendance too!
•Setting your alarm clock or pestering your parents to wake you up at 6am on a day you don’t have an exam.
•Headphones running live commentary instead of music.
•More people in the common room and canteen than anywhere else during an India match because when Virat Kohli bats, nobody moves.
•You become a part of the crowd in front of electronics stores.
•Facebook newsfeed is full of cricket updates for as long as you can scroll. Up or down, either way it’s just cricket.
•People who’ve never been interested in the sport suddenly start watching each match and become the most ardent supporters.
•The streets bleed blue because the World Cup edition of the Indian jersey is a must-have.
•Para cricket picks up every day that India doesn’t have a match.
•Even the least superstitious person starts wearing the same T-shirt to college or eating the same snack or sitting in a particular corner of the class every time India plays because it might just make a difference.
