What: PVR
Where: Diamond City North on Jessore Road
Calcutta’s growing multiplex map has a new stop. On Friday, Delhi plex chain PVR unveiled a five-screen multiplex in the Diamond City North mall in Jessore Road. Spread over 42,000 square feet, the five screens on the mall’s fifth floor will target film buffs in the Jessore Road, Nagerbazar and Lake Town areas, besides Ultadanga and even Rajarhat.
Probably the prettiest plex in town now, the lounge area — done up in vivid shades of red, blue, green and yellow — has a sandwich glass ceiling that comprises a collage of pictures of Holly, Bolly and Tolly stars. The total investment? Rs 12 crore.

Screen story
Like every other multiplex in town, PVR Diamond City North is dominated by the colour red. The total seating capacity is 1,146, with Screen 1 and 2 being the largest at 294 seats each. All five audis have recliners at the back, prime seats in the middle and regular seats closer to the screen.
In each audi, the screens are 70mm with 7.1 surround sound and are 3D-enabled. “PVR Avani and now PVR Diamond City North are the only plexes in the city to use 2K Christie digital projection technology in all our screens,” said Arpan Dutta, CEO, PVR Ltd.

Sip ’’ Bite
There are three snack counters. While one serves pop picks like popcorn, cola, nachos and sandwiches, the other two sell dim sums and chaat. “We are the only multiplex in town to have our own kitchen,” said Dutta. Some good news for movie lovers at PVR looking for a sip ’’ bite? Unlike most other city plexes, this one serves non-vegetarian fare!

Ticket trail
The box-office counter is located on the plex level itself and has six points of sale. Tickets can be bought from the counter or purchased online (www.pvrcinemas.com) or through Book My Show (in.bookmyshow.com). A much-needed innovation at PVR Diamond City North? A kiosk called Quick Tix (inset) which enables you to get a hard copy of your tickets booked on the Web, without getting into the hassle of standing in queue.
