Tellywood’s cutest couple are Sara Khan (Sadhna of Bidaai) and Ali Merchant (Bharat of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii). They share the secrets of their love story.

Was it love at first sight?

Sara: It was very much love at first sight for me. I would go to Ali’s mom’s parlour and see him. He knew that I was working in a TV serial but he did not know the name of my serial. Whenever I would call the parlour, he would take my calls and fix my appointments. Gradually, we started talking to each other. Gradually, our family also got involved.

Ali: Yes, it was pretty surprising for me. I never believed in the concept of love at first sight earlier; but now I do (laughs).

What was the first thing you noticed in him/her?

Sara: His cute smile and his sexy voice (laughs). Ali: The first time I saw her was at my mom’s parlour. I caught a glimpse of Sara’s eyes through the mirror. I remember she was wearing something in white.

Does he/she conform to the idea of the partner you were looking for?

Sara: Ali is my dream man. I love the way he woos me. He always keeps me waiting. When I call him up to express my ire, he says, ‘Say I love you a hundred times and I will be there in front of you.’

Ali: Yes, she is definitely the one for me because I have lived all my life in Mumbai and seen the best and the worst of people. She has excellent family values, morals and ethics. She respects everybody, even the spot guys. And I really respect this quality of hers.

How was your first date?

Sara: The best part of our relationship is that no one proposed, yet, we knew that we loved each other dearly. For our first date, we went to Hi Lounge and really enjoyed ourselves. We waltzed and had good food. I can never forget that day; it was the ultimate feel-good evening. Ali had asked me for the date.

Ali: I also remember the date — it was January 24. We met at Hi Lounge, she was there with her friends. I had to wait till three in the morning before her friends went back. I wanted to tell her what I felt for her so I endured the wait.

What gifts do you give?

Sara: Teddy bears, clothes, perfumes, chocolates. There is a white teddy bear which is always beside me in my car.

Ali: (Laughs) She came on the sets with chocolates and flowers, not just for me, but for the entire unit. I’m a little lazy about charging my phone so she presented me with a car charger. I gifted her a two-dimensional keychain in crystal which has pictures of the two of us.

Are you considering marriage? Where would you go for your honeymoon?

Sara: Right now we are very young and are concentrating on our careers. Ali will be doing three shows in which he plays the lead. I want to save enough so that when we get married we are relaxed. For now we want to know each other, it has just been five to six months. For our honeymoon we might go to Malaysia and Singapore. Ali always teases me that we will go to Bangkok and get a massage on the beach.

Ali: We will marry after two-three years, probably. She is doing the number one show on television and has to sustain her work. There is a lot of responsibility on us. I would like to go to Vancouver because Sara wants to try bungee jumping.

What do you dislike most about him/her?

Sara: Ali is very lazy, I want to change this habit of his.

Ali: I want her to be a bit more disciplined in life since I am and I follow schedules. But then I cannot really blame her, it will come with age. Sara calls me lazy because if I have an early shift, I go to sleep. I want to look fresh in the morning whereas she prefers to be awake if she has an early shift and time to spare.
