Ten reasons why buying art from CIMA Art Mela is a good idea
1 Quality, quality, quality. You are getting an artwork by a major artist of India, which is not just two lines and a dot. The art in the mela is engaging and more than just a signature.
2 Price. Where else could you get a serious and genuine work by, say, Jogen Chowdhury within Rs 25,000?
3 Because you are still a newcomer; unsure and nervous. A good place to begin to inform the eye and learn about art and art buying.
4 It is low risk and with steadily high returns in the long term.
5 You get choice and variety — you are able to see and buy art by about 60 artists — emerging and established.
6 Art which is contemporary and art which is more narrative are under one roof.
7 You support the efforts of young people who do not yet have the means to go to art college but have the passion to express themselves through art.
8 Every work has been screened and selected. You only have to choose the best from the good and better.
9 Buying is SAFE, easy, reliable and uncomplicated. Without any heartburn at the end of the feast.
10 Size matters. Paintings and sculptures are apartment-friendly and do not require large walls or high ceilings. And yet the artworks cannot be overlooked.

Things to Consider with your Custom Picture Framer
Works on paper or cloth should be protected under glass. Textiles hold up over years by sewing to a backing board prior to framing. If appropriate, use glass in frame to preserve the cloth... but do not allow glass to come in contact with the cloth.
The mat’s purpose is to keep the glass from resting on paper artwork. The colour of the mat should not distract from the artwork but rather, draw the viewer in.
This remains true for choice of moulding as well. No matter how ornate the moulding, the art should be centre stage. You do not want people to exclaim, “beautiful frame!”
Spacers may be used in double or triple matting to give a sense of depth to a piece. Spacers may also be used alone to separate glass from cloth pieces. Also, for very large pieces, spacers may be used on their own when there is no mat.
If conservation is an issue, care should be taken to use all acid-free products which would include matting, mounting board and backing, such as foam core, frame sealing paper and tape.
Glass: Choose regular picture glass for household use where glare or conservation is not an issue; choose non-glare glass which significantly cuts glare as its name suggests and allows for clearer viewing; choose conservation glass, also called museum quality, which gives nearly 100 per cent protection from harmful UV rays on important pieces. Museum quality also allows for a crystal clear view.
Oil paintings preferably should be mounted on wooden stretcher bars, then framed without glass. Sealer on oil canvas should not be applied before one year of painting’s completion to allow for paints to cure.
