A MINI INDIA ON MACHAAN MENU

What: Kebab and Curry Festival
Where: Machaan, Mani Square
When: Noon to 3.30pm and 7pm to 11pm, till end of May
Pocket pinch: Rs 1,100-plus for two

Machaan, the jungle-themed restaurant at Mani Square mall, has drawn up a menu map of regional Indian cuisines for summer. The ongoing Kebab and Curry festival features dishes from all over India, with unusual and exotic ingredients to bring out the flavours.

“We travelled across India for authentic recipes and have sourced the ingredients from the regions. It is easy for us to source them since our footprints are across India,” said Debashish Ghosh, general manager, relationships and brand standards, Speciality Restaurants Ltd.

While Cafreal Bekti is a Goan speciality, Bhut Jolokia Chicken Tangdi is made with the famous chillies of the same name found in Nagaland. Pacha Pottani Thoran is a spicy green pea curry from Kerala, while Saoji Mutton made with dagad phool or kalpasi, hails from Nagpur. As accompaniment, you can choose from Kashmiri naan, Taftan, Girda or the rich Ladakhi Dum Mutton Biryani made with plums. For dessert, tuck into Meetha Paan ice cream or Aam Papdi ice cream — the best way to beat the heat.

“Usually we do a lot of festivals in summer in all our other restaurants, but we’re doing a festival here in Machaan after a long time. It is a unique restaurant with a great ambience, children really take to it. Mani Square is seeing a lot of footfall specially because of the summer vacations, and on weekends the restaurant does very well,” Ghosh added.

Eating right and light to stay fit for summer is a must! Watz This Friday, the vegetarian restaurant on Lake Road, has introduced a summer menu that is nice without being heavy, quite apt for the weather.

“Every season, we introduce some new dishes, made with seasonal ingredients, to stop the menu from becoming monotonous. The dishes that receive positive feedback are added to the regular menu,” said Surendra Pagaria,

partner, Watz This Friday.
The fruit basket comes to the table with Watermelon Gazpacho, Mango Cheesecake and Somtum salad made with papaya. But if fruit’s not your thing, dig into Baked Pointed Gourd or Jackfruit Sizzler.

The quaint 52-seater eatery behind Vivekananda Park might be a tad difficult to locate but once you’re there it’s difficult to leave. And not just on a Friday!
