IN HIGH SPIRITS: Scotch whisky aficionados were recently given an opportunity to sharpen their blending skills at the Art of Blending session by Shantanu Sengupta, brand ambassador for United Spirits Limited, at Calcutta Rowing Club.
“This is the first of three Art of Blending events at the club. Only the first 55 members of 180 applicants were shortlisted this time. The idea was to give the members an opportunity to discover the kinds of Scotch whisky their taste palates take to. Our Scotch trail started with a light-bodied Scotch, then went on to a medium-bodied Scotch and ended with a heavy-bodied Scotch,” said Souvik Ghosh, bar member, Calcutta Rowing Club. There was also a short quiz conducted by Sengupta to test Scotch knowledge, with bottles of Black Dog being given away as prizes. The members also learnt how to pair their food with their drink. “The number of Scotch drinkers amongst the club members is very high, so everyone enjoyed it and we plan to hold more such sessions soon,” said CRC honorary secretary Chandan Roy Choudhury.
