Barun Sobti turns 32 today. On Wednesday, the screen heart-throb — who left Calcutta on Thursday after spending a month here — was treated to a pre-birthday celebration at Novotel by the cast and crew of 22 Yards, the film that he’s been shooting here. t2 joined the party and then sat down for a quick chat with Barun on all things birthday.
Happy birthday! What are your plans for your big day?
Thank you! No plans as such... 32 is not a special number, so I don’t think I need to really celebrate it (smiles).
How do you generally spend your birthdays?
I have had all kinds of birthdays. The last two years, it has been with just friends getting together, having fun and partying till the wee hours.
What’s been your fondest birthday memory from childhood?
As kids, we had the freedom to wear coloured clothes instead of the school uniform on our birthdays. I used to take sweets or toffees to distribute in school. That was good! (Smiles)
What has been your best birthday gift ever?
I can’t say that because I have loved all the gifts that I have got so far. I have loved the attention that people have give me.
And your dream birthday?
It will be when I won’t get any attention! (Laughs)
You aren’t much of a foodie, but is there anything you like eating on this special day?
Usually people eat sweets, but I don’t have a sweet tooth at all. I like to eat the same kind of things that I usually eat. I am not too fond of sweets and cakes. So probably a bitter cake for me! (Laughs)
The first schedule of 22 Yards has just come to a close. What will you take back from this experience?
As an individual, I will only take back experiences. Whatever comes out later is a different story, but experience is what matters to me the most. I have had a good month working here. It’s been a tough schedule, but I think we have done well. Let’s see how it turns out from here.
