Cherry Orchard 2011, in association with t2, brings under one roof more than 40 labels from the country over. Among these is the king of classic, Raghavendra Rathore. Brand Rathore is one of the big names setting up shop at The Oberoi Grand on Thursday, as part of the fifth instalment of the biannual lifestyle exhibition.
The designer from Jodhpur will be sending a collection that is an edited glimpse of the “whole gamut” of his “product portfolio”.
“The collection will have a little bit of everything, from light pieces to very heavy ones,” Rathore told t2.
“The energy of the festive season in Calcutta is quite inspiring. Also, the response to the collection will help us finetune our winter line. So participating in the exhibition is a win-win situation for us,” he added.
Expect kurtas for men from the RR label and tunics, salwar kameezes and lots of saris for women from his Blue Mantra range. The menswear will feature darker hues, the tunics are print-oriented, while some of the heavier saris will have zari and gota work, perfect for the festive weeks ahead.
The collection coming to Calcutta will also provide a peek into Rathore’s fall-winter 2011-12 line. “My fall-winter look is very heavy. Embroidery is really in and my collection will have lots of it,” said the designer. For women he plans to introduce a fabric with “an in-built sheen”, while the menswear will be shaped out of lyrca-based material. “My winter look for men is very snug, close to the body. Hence a lot of tapered pants,” he added.
The prints, sometimes seen on full outfits and sometimes as hints on collars maybe, are “blotchy colourful patches” melting into one another. “Though the winter collection is still under production, some of the elements, like the embroidery, we have incorporated in the collection that is going to Cherry Orchard. This way we can test the response,” said Rathore.
Rathore’s collection at the exhibition will start at Rs 4,000 and stop around Rs 40,000.
