The Calcutta Ladies Golf Club hosted the prize distribution ceremony of the Governors Cup Tournament, in association with The Telegraph, on July 4. What made the event special? The “oldest ladies golf club in the world” also celebrates its quasquicentennial (125th) anniversary this year. “When we joined this club there weren’t many players but now the young golfers have multiplied and that is a great sign,” said Debjani Dasgupta (fourth from left, first row), club captain and member since 2000.
For club president Nina Singh (second from right, front row), it was a nostalgic moment. “I have been a member of this club for 20 years and after 47 years, we revived the Governors Cup this year, which is a great feeling,” she said.
