My vital statistics: Chest 41-42”; Waist 32”; Height 6’2”; Weight: 79kg.
Fitness for me: Is actually the ability to break the limits of the body. It’s about going to the gym and saying, ‘Ok, I did this yesterday and today I have the ability to do that’. It’s about pushing limits every day — both mentally and physically.
The Bollywood body I envy the most: I think Akshay Kumar, because he is very, very fit. He may not look muscular and ribbed but he looks really strong. I think people get carried away with muscles.
The Bollywood heroine with the fittest body: Bipasha Basu.
My fitness regime: I go to the gym thrice a week. I do pilates thrice a week and once a week I run in water for an hour. I do it in the shallow area of the pool. It looks funny because people think that you don’t know swimming and you are trying to make up for that by running!
My diet: I am a vegetarian. I have a huge appetite; I think that’s a Punjabi trait. I eat every two hours. But I forget dieting when I see butter, cream, chocolates. Anything that’s fattening is good for me (laughs).
The body part I love training: Legs.
The body part I hate training: Chest.
My best body feature: I like my back.
My worst body feature: My calves.
I started exercising looking at: Greg. He was a guy in my building and he was really thin and lanky. He started going to the gym and after eight months he was the toughest guy around. So he was the motivating factor for all of us.
I started working out at the age of: 17.
My first workout was: Crazy. I remember being obsessed with parallel bars. There was a parallel bar and a pull-up bar in my building. So I used to spend hours and hours on the parallel bar doing crazy things...
The gym I workout in: The Yash Raj gym.
My personal trainer is: Vicky. I have been with him for the past few months now.
The best compliment I have got: Strangely, I don’t remember compliments. But usually I have been told that I am really fit, strong and lean.
Relationship between fitness and health: Fitness is not about building big and huge muscles. It’s about being flexible and having stamina. It’s better to have muscles that are functionally strong instead of having muscles that only look good.
Relationship between fitness and good looks: Good looks are completely related to fitness. I mean beyond the personality which is obviously important. If you look physically strong and carry your clothes well, then you automatically become good looking and attractive.
Relationship between fitness and self confidence: They are all co-related. Fitness makes you look good, feel good, dress well, present yourself well. So you feel more confident about yourself.
If I don’t workout, I feel: A bit restless. I am very restless as a person.
When I workout, I feel: Good — it's lot of fun going and breaking the limits of my body.
My take on steroid use and abuse: I think it’s terrible. It’s destroying your body parts from inside. It’s counterproductive instead of being productive.
A piece of advice for aspiring body builders: Like I said, don’t limit yourself to building muscles. Just enjoy the process. Most importantly, get your butt off the sofa and go to the gym.
