A day before he rocked Calcutta in a sold-out three-hour concert, Bollywood singer Arijit Singh took time out of his rehearsals to interact with the students of The Bhawanipur Education Society College (BESC) on their Elgin Road campus. The man, who has scripted a fairy tale journey from Jiaganj in Murshidabad to lending his voice to some of the biggest Bollywood hits in recent times, chatted with the students — who had patiently waited for hours to catch a glimpse — and also gave away passes for his Christmas Eve concert.
“Have you all come for me? How long have you been waiting?” Arijit asked the crowd, surprised by the huge turnout.
A brief interactive session anchored by Mir followed, where the man behind charbusters like Safar and Ae dil hai mushkil talked about his Murshidabad roots and his dream run in Bollywood, even singling out a few students from Murshidabad in the audience and speaking to them. And though his voice wasn’t really up to it, Arijit signed off with a few lines from his breakout hit Tum hi ho.

The students of The Bhawanipur Gujarati Education Society not only got a chance to get up close with Arijit Singh on campus but also volunteer backstage at the singer’s Christmas Eve concert. A few days before D-Day, Wizcraft India, the organisers of the mega tour that spans 10 cities, held a workshop on the college premises to brief the students.
From preparing a checklist to the importance of teamwork, time management to using reminder tools, the workshop touched upon various do and don’t of event management. About 50 student volunteers worked with the departments of sponsorship, logistics, photography and operations in this concert, which was locally partnered by Cherry Tree.
