AAP leader and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal on Sunday accused the BJP-led central government of conspiring to kill her husband inside jail.
Addressing the Ulgulan Nyay Maharally organised by INDIA bloc at Ranchi on Sunday to protest the arrest of JMM executive president and former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren (arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on January 31 on allegation of money laundering over a land scam in Ranchi), Sunita alleged that Tihar jail authorities were not giving insulin to her husband despite him being a diabetic who has been on insulin for 12 years.
“Every meal of Kejriwal ji is under surveillance, with cameras installed to monitor his food intake. They want to kill my husband Arvind Kejriwal. He is denied insulin. My husband is a sugar patient who has been on insulin for 12 years; he needs 50 units of insulin daily," said Sunita.
Kejriwal was arrested by the ED and has been in Tihar jail since April 1. On April 18, he filed a petition in the court seeking advice from his doctor and demanding insulin, the decision on which is to be given on April 22.
Sunita did not mince words in her criticism of the current Narendra Modi-led regime, accusing it of running a dictatorship for imprisoning Kejriwal and his Jharkhand counterpart, Hemant Soren, without concrete evidence of their alleged wrongdoings.
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh also targeted the BJP government during the rally and said that tribal from all over the country will ensure that BJP leaders lose their deposits during the Lok Sabha polls.
He also alleged that the BJP wants to abolish the constitution and end reservations for Dalits and backward classes.
Almost all the INDIA bloc leaders urged the voters to ensure that the two vacant seats (with the names of Hemant Soren and Arvind Kejriwal written) are filled after June 4 (the counting day of votes for Lok Sabha polls) by voting for the INDIA bloc and candidates and defeating the BJP.
Former Bihar deputy chief minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav exuded confidence that the people of Jharkhand would give a befitting reply to the BJP for the injustice done to the former Jharkhand chief minister.
“He (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) is afraid of the INDIA bloc. They (BJP-led NDA) are raising the slogan of '400 paar'. However, PM Modi's '400 paar' film flopped in the very first phase of the (Lok Sabha) polls," said Yadav.
"The leaders of the BJP are speaking of finishing the Constitution again and again. It is a Constitution written by Baba Saheb Ambedkar, not by some random Baba. No one has the power to change it. In Bihar also, their ministers and candidates are saying constantly that they will finish the Constitution. They do not know that before that the people of the country will finish them," added Yadav.
Hemant's wife Kalpana Soren read out the message of his jailed husband written from Birsa Munda Central Jail, Ranchi.
“The 2024 Lok Sabha elections are underway. While the INDIA bloc is on one side, the capitalist NDA government is on the other. Since 2014, the BJP-led NDA government is in power at the Centre it wants its rule in all the states, and it is showing a step-motherly attitude towards states where there is a non-BJP government and when non-BJP ruled state demand their rights their leaders are sent to jail," said Kalpana reading out the message.
Samajwadi Party leader and former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav exuded confidence that the BJP was being decimated in the polls based on the first phase of the polls.
Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making the tribal President just for electoral gains. “Modiji always says that he made a tribal the President of the country. He has not done this for the welfare of tribals but for votes. Why was the tribal President not invited during the consecration of the temple at Ayodhya, why was she not invited for the inauguration of the new Parliament building,” questioned Kharge claiming that Modi believes only in telling lies.
