Meet two of fashion’s young influencers as they define their styles

Return of Retro

Much of 80’s and 90’s fashion is back. I’m totally obsessed with street-style fashion and decided to recreate some key looks from those times with an oversized summer jacket coupled with flared denims. Statement accessories are my thing, so I coupled these cat-eye frames with a fanny pack.

Shop the label

Online exclusives: Koovs, Shein, AJIO. High street brands like Forever 21, Diesel, H&M.

Chikky Goenka is a fashion entrepreneur who aims at spreading awareness about “glocal” trends and promoting Indian labels. Goenka, from Calcutta, curates fashion pop-ups for Indian and international brands, styles celebrities and magazine covers. The young influencer — @StyleographbychikkyGoenka —  shares a few of her favourite trends from summer, 2018.

She talks about two looks.

Pantsuits

Power dressing is in.

Pantsuits are the mother of all trends this season.

Indulge in slouchy ones with t-shirts and sneakers, or opt for heritage checks with buttoned-up shirt and kitten heels.

Take it from desk to dinner by swapping a shirt with a t-shirt or vest. I chose a pastel shade, adding 90’s vibes with a printed vest that brings quirk.

Shop the label

High street brands like H&M, Zara Online, Marks & Spencers.

Or invest in a tailor-made piece by designers like Eshaani Jayaswal, Manika Nanda, Nikhil Thampi.

Saachi Bhasin says she learnt a lot about fashion as a model, make-up and style. “Fashion is to really wear something that defines you,” she says. She feels that her Instagram handle — @saachi.bhasin – helps many to understand fashion in reality. Sachi, from Calcutta, has collaborated with brands like PUMA, H&M, Daniel Wellington, Payal Singhal, Amrapali and  Aeropostale.

She talks about three looks.

Lace

Lace will always be trending.

For centuries it has added “richness” to an outfit, as well as elegance. I love to team up a simple lace top with a skirt,
preferably a colourful one, for a brunch or date, or even a formal meeting look. Pair it up with a ring and some earrings!

Sidebangs: I recently got sidebangs (from Rosie’s Salon, Sunny Park) because I am obsessed with looking retro. So a definite event-ready look would be a formal red dress, long earrings, sidebangs, a slight puff in the hair to top it off, and green eyeliner, to make heads turn!

COMFORT CHIC

For me style is to pick up mundane individual products, mix them up and create something fun that could also be multipurpose. For my event-ready or party-ready look, I tend to take a maxi dress, open the buttons up to make it a shrug , wear a fun white crop top and some high waisted pants, and layer the entire outfit with a smart belt. This not only helps to create a “Wow” look, but is also comfort chic!
