It’s Nava Varsha week, and right around this time, Thailand celebrates its new year too, known as Songkran. Vintage Asia, JW Marriott Kolkata, is celebrating the occasion with the Songkran Food Festival, which has an a la carte as well as a set menu. t2 checked it out this Monday afternoon, and guess who else walked in for lunch? Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli, with some of his team members!

Yum Som O: It’s Pomelo salad which has tamarind juice, palm sugar, chopped chillies, water chestnut, roasted coconuts and is topped with fried shallots. A balance of fresh and hot. Rs 550-plus
Khao Phadsapparod: Served inside a scooped pineapple, this wok-fried Thai rice is seasoned with raisins for a sweet aftertaste. Available in vegetarian, chicken and prawn, served with a pineapple and raisin relish. Rs 725-plus, Rs 745-plus and Rs 775-plus, respectively.
Gai-Phad Med Mamuanghimmaphan: Wok-fried chicken served with cashew nuts in an oyster sauce, tomato sauce and a palm sugar-based hot and spicy gravy. Rs 750-plus
Tom Sab Gai: A dish from north-eastern Thailand, this clear and spicy soup flavoured with lemongrass, parsley, roasted rice and shallots with boiled chicken chunks is very refreshing and ideal if you have a sore throat. Rs 495-plus
Thodmungoong: Ideal if you like things deep-fried, these Thai herb- flavoured prawn cakes, with a sweet and spicy plum sauce, will go well with a beer. Rs 435-plus

“In Thailand, Songkran is the new year, and for us, it is a day when we go to the temple and pass on gifts to one another. And what better way to celebrate the new year than with a feast full of delicacies!” said Suvit Tongnark, specialty Thai chef, Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Merlin Beach, who has flown down for the festival.
