Sector V munch map

Thanks to a slew of restaurants and pubs mushrooming in and around the area, Salt Lake Sector V is now a foodie’s paradise. t2 went on a trail to check out some of the popular eat-drink-hangout dens.

Thanks to a slew of restaurants and pubs mushrooming in and around the area, Salt Lake Sector V is now a foodie’s paradise. t2 went on a trail to check out some of the popular eat-drink-hangout dens. 

RESTAURANT 

Barbeque Nation

The first Calcutta outlet of this grills-on-the-table format restaurant opened in Sector V in 2008. Covering a sprawling 4,000sq ft space, it boasts of 122 covers and a European decor. The live grills are their speciality and we love the Cajun Spice Potato, which is boiled baby potatoes with cajun sauce, mayo, chilli flakes, paprika and cajun powder.
Where: K1, RDB Boulevard, Block EP and GP.
Timings: Noon to 3.30pm and 6.30pm to 10.45pm.
Meal for one: Rs 686-plus. 

Sly Fox Gastro Hub

The 3,000sq ft lounge is done up with flowing drapes, patterned floor tiles and wooden chandeliers. The 80-seater eatery that serves Indian, Oriental and European cuisines opened doors on April 18. They serve a mean Grilled Salmon Fillet with Capers @ Rs 825, where the fish is cooked in an orange pepper sauce and served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. 
Where: Plot XI, 11 and 12, Block EP, Globsyn Crystals.
Timings: Noon to midnight.
Meal for two: Rs 1,600-plus. 

Pithe Bilashi

The second of the three Pithe Bilashi outlets in the city opened in Sector V in 2016. This 1,500sq ft Bengali cuisine restaurant with 50 covers has indoor and outdoor seating arrangements from where you get a pretty view of the Nalban lake. We love the Cheese Baked Bhetki Patishapta @ Rs 190 in which every bite melts in the mouth.
Where: Nalban Food Park.
Timings: 10am to 9.30pm.
Meal for two: Rs 500.

Kareem’s

The first outlet of Kareem’s opened in Sector V on April 5, 2017. The 130-seater Indian cuisine restaurant is spread over two floors and has a typical Indian decor. Although their biryanis and kebabs are what people look for, we love their Chicken Lahori @ Rs 390, which is a red spicy gravy-based dish with boneless chicken.
Where: PS Srijan Corporate Park, Retail Unit 2, Tower I, Plot G-2, GP Block.
Timings: Noon to 3.30pm and 7pm to 11.30pm.
Meal for two: Rs 1,200.

Bhojohori Manna

The sixth outlet of the Bengali speciality restaurant chain opened in Sector V in 2012. The 110-seater eatery is spread over 2,400sq ft space. The Ilish Maachher Paturi 
@ Rs 300 melts in the mouth and packs a punch with the strong shorshe flavour. 
Where: 2nd floor, Globsyn Crystal, EP and GP Block.
Timings: 11.30am to 10pm.
Meal for two: Rs 650-plus.

Jaisalmer

If you’re craving kebabs, you should be heading to Jaisalmer. Spread over two floors and 2,000sq ft, the 200-seater restaurant has a bar on the ground floor. The decor has a Rajasthani touch to it and the floor-to-ceiling glass windows let in natural light. The focus of the menu is on north Indian food. We love the 
Pallu Kebab @ Rs 310, which has six pieces of tandoor-cooked chicken covered in cheese.
Where: Globsyn Crystal, EP & GP Block.
Timings: Noon to 11pm; buffet 12.30pm to 3.30pm, 7pm to 11pm.
Meal for two: Rs 800-plus on a la carte.
Buffet: Rs 550-plus for lunch and Rs 600-plus for dinner.

BAR AND LOUNGE

Bakstage

After a long day at work, the vibe of this night spot could be just the thing you need. The 8,500sq ft pub is a throwback to the music of Pink Floyd, The Who, Queen.... The walls are covered with vinyl records and graffiti with the names of different artistes from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s. The 125-seater resto-pub serves multi-cuisine food. If you’re a regular, you can have your own glass with your name on it. #SoCool! The Bazuuka Platter @ Rs 2,500 is good to be shared. The veg platter comes with different veg kebabs, paneer bites and two packed shawarmas.
Where: 1st floor, EN Block.
Timings: Noon to midnight.
Meal for two: Rs 1,500.

Chai Break Cafe And Bar

Yup, you read that right! The 130-seater cafe in Sector V was converted into a bar earlier this month. The 3,000sq ft space is divided into two sections — smoking and non-smoking. It serves some delish cocktails and bites, and there’s hookah too. We tried the Meze Platter @ Rs 275 which comes with Korean Baos, four dips —labneh, baba ganoush, hummus and omi houriya — and three kinds of falafels.
Where: K1, Block EP and GP, RDB Boulevard, ground floor.
Timings: 11am to midnight.
Meal for two: Rs 1,000-plus without alcohol and Rs 1,500-plus with alcohol.

Perfect Place In Town

The party pad that opened earlier this year has an outdoor chill zone and an indoor nightclub, covering 12,000sq ft. It serves Chinese, Indian and Continental cuisine. Their hookah is a bonus. The Grilled Chicken in Mushroom Sauce @ Rs 350 is full of flavour and comes with vegetables and mashed potatoes.
Where: Stesalit Towers, 9th floor, next to RDB Cinemas.
Timings: Noon to midnight.
Meal for two: Rs 1,500-plus. 

Pour House

If you are working hard, then you should be partying harder. This 
8,500sq ft space is ideal for a clubbing night out. It opened on June 17, 2016 and can accommodate approximately 250 party peeps. The DJ usually plays Bollywood and commercial numbers. The menu is multi-cuisine. t2 tasted the Chicken Cheese Kebab @ Rs 350 — chicken kebab covered in cheese served with mint chutney that adds a tangy touch.
Where: Meghatherm Tower, K1, EP and GP, GP Block.
Timings: Noon to midnight on weekdays, noon to 1am on Friday and noon to 2am on Saturday.
Meal for two: Rs 1,200.

Barocks Club

If chilling is on your mind, then Barocks Club is the place to be. The 5,800sq ft night-out spot has brick inlay on the walls, which gives it a country feel. The 70-seater multi-cuisine restaurant offers Indian, pan-Asian and Northwest frontier cuisines. Their Chicken Wings @ Rs 255-plus is cooked in barbecue and sriracha sauce and garnished with sesame seeds and coriander.
Where: Godrej Waterside.
Timings: Noon to midnight.
Meal for two: Rs 1,500-plus.

Moksh Club

The interiors of this 2,700sq ft party pad has a rustic touch, done up in shades of green and wood. There’s a separate section that you can book for private parties. The menu has Indian, Chinese and Global sections. We tried the Bharwan Aloo @ Rs 299, in which potatoes are stuffed with paneer, mewa, cashews, raisins and cheese and charcoal-grilled.
Where: DP Block.
Timings: Noon to midnight.
Meal for two: Rs 1,500-plus.

Raize The Bar

For a night of drinks, fun and games, Raize The Bar is the place to be. The 7,000sq ft chill spot with its own brewery can accommodate 180 people. Bollywood and commercial music will keep you entertained, and games like foosball and beer pong up the fun factor. The menu offers Italian, Chinese and Indian dishes. We liked the Crumb Fried Mushrooms @ Rs 299, with juicy mushrooms covered in a crispy batter.
Where: Plot No. 5, Godrej Waterside IT Park, College More, DP Block.
Timings: Noon to midnight.
Meal for two: Rs 2,400-plus.

CAFE

Paris Cafe 

This pretty 1,000sq ft cafe from the popular chain has a touch of Paris in the decor. The 45-cover cafe serves all the sweet treats that the chain is known for and some savoury dishes too. The bestseller is the Le Success @ Rs 140, which is a hazelnut dacquoise covered in a dark chocolate ganache and topped with milk chocolate mousse. 
Where: Block EP XI, ground floor, Southcity Pinnacle.
Timings: 8.30am to 10pm.
Meal for two: Rs 600.
