BRANDON DE SOUZA BRINGS ALIVE THE MOODS AND MOMENTS FROM DAY ONE OF THE TELEGRAPH GOLF CUP 2017 AT RCGC

In the last few weeks, Calcutta has rightfully received a great deal of accolade for the successful conduct of the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Much less well-known has been Calcutta’s tryst and contribution to mercantile sport which continues to flourish with golf at the forefront dating back to 1906. On November 14, the Royal Calcutta Golf Club was decked up to welcome this year’s 228 participants representing 62 corporate teams and while the RCGC steeped in history has a sundial dating back to 1826, what is interesting is that this event has always been held at this club.

What: The Telegraph Golf Cup 2017

Where: Royal Calcutta Golf Club

When: Today is the last leg of the tournament. The final round will tee off at 8am, while the prize distribution will swing into action at 8pm

Change is necessary and while corporates in the east have seen some traction from the good old days, the planters, oil men and steel executives still flock to Calcutta and the different cities or towns include Digboi and Duliajan, all the tea gardens that dot Assam, Jamshedpur and of course the City of Joy.
