Power dressing to me is about being who you are. I am thinking strong women who are comfortable in their own skin and command respect the minute they walk in. The 21st century woman isn’t afraid to express herself through her dressing. Structured cuts, bold colours and quirky accessories sum up the mood board for this shoot.

Colourblock for that fresh fizz on a winter day out with your workmates. Throw in a jacket for a layer. Chevron heels and chunky accessories add to the quirkiness.

The classic monochrome is for all seasons and reasons. This black-and-white skirt-shirt combo is perfect for a work lunch. The cut-out sleeves and the asymmetrical hemline of the skirt add fun to the look. A studded black knapsack can hold all your essentials. Black boots will up the chic quotient. Go for golden earrings or hoops.

Channel the grunge for an after-work party. Change into a slit dress that spells dare; push up the oomph factor with a leather jacket. Brush your hair back, slip on your boots and wear minimal make-up.

Ditch the greys and browns. Go with a coral pantsuit for that important presentation in the boardroom. The pantsuit silhouette lends a formal, androgynous touch, while the colour coral and white flowers on the jacket make it feminine. The clutch says it all — Girl Boss. And a pair of light gold danglers will be the surprise element in this look.

Why should we follow the cliche? Power dressing is all about being comfortable. The dressing protocol is obviously there, but you can wear a fun colour and still be taken seriously.... The moment you say power dressing, Angelina Jolie comes to mind. She is iconic. I also like Emma Watson. She is amazing. Closer home, it will be Deepika Padukone — Sauraseni Maitra, our model for the day

POWER STATEMENT

Michelle Obama has always been oh-so-unpredictably cool — (l-r) in a black dress with a burst of florals; colourblocking in yellow with a green flower placed like a brooch.
Angelina Jolie did white-on-white teaming a sharp blazer with a top and flowy midi skirt. (Far right) A black suit with an buttoned shirt collar and an open bow tie turns the classic style around.
Deepika Padukone’s fiery red suit paired with a lacy inner combines oomph with power.
