According to a leaked 15-page document attributed to the ministry of home affairs in Myanmar, the military government there has announced plans to allow citizens who are “loyal to the nation” to carry licenced firearms. The new policy would allow those over 18 to carry several types of guns and ammunition. The document says recipients of the gun permits must also be “of good moral character”, not involved in disturbing state security, and must comply with orders to participate in security and law enforcement actions. The announcement, however, is being seen as the military dictatorship’s efforts to arm its supporters against prodemocracy opponents.

A never-before-seen video of the Titanic wreckage was released on February 16, to coincide with the film Titanic’s 25th anniversary. The 80-minute footage was taken in 1986 by a joint team from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, US, and the French Institute for Research and Exploration of the Sea during the first detailed study of the wreck.
