My remarkable traffic sense stops me from driving. But that doesn’t prevent me from being a long-drive enthusiast. My favourite long drive, till date, remains a disaster-ridden one we took to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Incidentally, it falls close to my son’s birthday too. Loaded with leftovers from a hyperactive 10-year-old’s party, we set out for an undecided destination. Just getting out of the Calcutta traffic is therapeutic in itself and we found ourselves heading towards Kolaghat. The roads weren’t good. But we were too busy taking in the countryside to notice it. And then, the car got stuck. With no people around to help, I remember we had to get bamboo poles to get the car out of the mire. It was almost dark when we got out of there and reached a beautiful spot on the riverbank to watch the sun go down. The mini adventure, having my family around and watching a sunset in peace ? it was all I could ask for!
