There was a special meal laid out for Preeti and Shivika Goenka, Sunita Oberoi and Mehek Chauhan, Renu and Prerna Poddar, Anuradha and Stuti Kanoria and Sumedha and Avantika Saraogi on May 8 at Quest’s Yauatcha. A meal of dim sums that they themselves had just tried their hands at, preceded by a dim sum masterclass by Kushal Lama of the Oriental dine den. Hosted by Preeti and her daughter-in-law Shivika, the event was a run-up to Mother’s Day (on May 13).

“It was Shivika’s idea,” said Preeti, in between trying her hands at Vegetarian Chive Dim Sum. “We wanted to do something fun and different. It was great to learn making dim sums,” said Shivika.

Sumedha and Avantika Saraogi chose to have a go at Asparagus and Corn Roll first. “I don’t cook… I taste! The first time I tried to make a dim sum, it was a blob... this is much better,” said Avantika. “I don’t really get a chance to miss her really... we see each other almost every day. I guess being in the same town and us living so close to each other makes it easy to meet so often,” said Sumedha about her daughter who got married recently. “I just get pampered a lot more now,” said Avantika.

Anuradha Kanoria had a lot of fun making dim sums with daughter Stuti. “I don’t know how much we are going to make it, but we certainly enjoyed ourselves,” said Anuradha. Stuti, who has been married for almost four years, felt her mom loves her raviolis the most. “She cooks for me,” said Anuradha, posing with her Truffle Edamame Dumpling.

Sunita Oberoi was there with daughter Mehek Chauhan, both armed with notebooks. Mehek, who has been married for two years, said Sunita missed having her around “all the time”. “We both have a passion for food,” said Sunita.
Renu Poddar and daughter-in-law Prerna made dim sums for the first time. “Mom’s Indian food is very good, she gets her flavours right… that’s what I really appreciate,” said Prerna who has been married for a year and three months. “Prerna makes excellent cakes,” said Renu, in between proudly showing off the Asparagus and Corn Rolls.
The dim sum cook-off verdict? “Teams A (Preeti and Shivika) and C (Renu and Prerna) made the best dim sums,” said Kushal Lama of Yauatcha. His top tips for that perfect dim sum included a “juicy and crunchy” filling and “soft and chewy” skin. “Keep in mind the aroma, taste and texture,” he said.
