Melodies of Tagore at The Saturday Club

Rabindra Jayanti was celebrated by revisiting the bard’s famous songs and poetry at The Saturday Club presents Rabindra Jayanti 1425 in association with t2 on May 11. The proceedings of the evening were divided into two — Amar hiyar majhe, dedicated to Tagore’s love songs, and Cholochhitrey Rabindranath, dedicated to his songs that have found place in films over the years.

Rabindra Jayanti was celebrated by revisiting the bard’s famous songs and poetry at The Saturday Club presents Rabindra Jayanti 1425 in association with t2 on May 11. The proceedings of the evening were divided into two — Amar hiyar majhe, dedicated to Tagore’s love songs, and Cholochhitrey Rabindranath, dedicated to his songs that have found place in films over the years. 

“My father listens to a lot of Tagore’s music. I came today to reconnect with my roots and try to learn a thing or two,” said Upal Das, who has recently graduated from Asutosh College.
Saswati Sengupta, one of the performers of the evening, sang songs like Je chhilo amar swaponocharini and Esho esho amar ghore esho. 
“I love listening to Rabindrasangeet and could not pass up the opportunity to come for this show,” said Susmita Dey, who had dropped in with her friends. 
Shamik Pal mesmerised the audience with his rendition of Emono dine tare bola jay. 
“I was at the club and heard of the Rabindra Jayanti function, so I immediately came to attend it. This was a lovely opportunity to listen to some of Tagore’s songs I had not heard before,” said Kamlesh Advani, a member of the club.
Organiser speak: “It feels great to pull off such an evening of merriment for everyone. I loved the performances by the artistes and how well they sang,” said Dipu Doshi, entertainment convener of the club.
