How many Nobel laureates had I met even for a fleeting moment? How many had I shaken hands with? Till last week, none. That’s why I am excited to tell you about the afternoon I had coffee and adda with one of the finest writers of our times, the 2006 Nobel Prize winner for literature, Orhan Pamuk. The literary rock star who divides his time between Istanbul (five months), New York (four), Goa (two) and exotic holidays, wears his greatness with such humility — it’s embarrassing. He mildly complained though about his last trip to Calcutta being “just meetings and meetings” but did not snub my invitation to make trip two.
