Written and composed by Tagore in 1905, the poem first appeared in the September issues of Bongodorshon and Baul, the same year. The first ten lines of the poem were formally adopted in 1972 as the Bangladeshi National Anthem. The English translation was done by Syed Ali Ahsan.
