I’ve written in this column before about a television show for schools in Pakistan called MindGrind. My host in Lahore for every trip was the flamboyant Pakistani playboy in his 60’s, Salmaan Taseer, the governor of Punjab province and media mogul. He was gunned down by an assassin 10 days ago. Shocker. Salmaan wasn’t a buddy; at best a business associate who did not honour his payment commitments. Miffed, I hadn’t spoken to him for over a year. This glitch apart, Salmaan was a charming host, a free thinker who lived life to the full and loved India more than any other Pakistani I know. Salmaan, sorry we didn’t say goodbye. Rest In Peace, friend. Whatever be the prefix, let’s banish the seedy suffix from our lives this year. Is anyone listening?
