It was the first spaceflight to successfully send animals to space and bring them back alive. This paved the way for Yuri Gagarin’s pathbreaking spaceflight less than eight months later. Meanwhile, Sunita Williams has just entered her second month on the International Space Station, and will assume command of Expedition 33, next month. Curiosity, the Mars rover, landed on Mars a couple of weeks back. Looking forward to some more interesting pictures from the red planet and maybe the first Martian!
