Glow gently

Six soothing looks for summer. Less is more, but there’s a lot to less, says make-up professional Zainab Ashraf

Look 1

Bronzed summer skin.

Orange lipstick.

This summer, it’s all about the glow! Contour your face using a matte brown shade in the hollows of your cheeks to pop the cheekbones up. Use a liquid highlighter to glow like a goddess. It blends into the skin easily and will give you a glow from within.

Orange lipstick is trending in a major way. But this is not to say we have to stick to a particular shade — the terracottas and tangerines are also fair game and look great on all skin tones.

Look 2

‘No make-up’ make-up.

This make-up trend is going nowhere. In the sense that it keeps coming back again and again. For a flawless coverage, apply foundation or concealer to the areas only where it is required and set it with loose powder. To correct dark spots, use a peach/orange colour corrector and go over it with a concealer one shade brighter than your skin tone.

No eyeshadow, no lipstick. Seal the look with lipgloss! Less is more.

Look 3

Bigger eyes. Bolder eyebrows.

Use a nude kaajal on the lower waterline to make your eyes appear larger. A touch of shimmer to the inner corner will open up your eyes too.

Brush those natural brows with brow gel instead of filling them in with a brow pencil. Keep it au naturel! For the lips, a nude pink would seal the deal.

Look 4

Statement lips

Lipsticks are growing in popularity. Dark eyes used to be the most popular trend in makeup; however, lipsticks are taking over. Show off bold lips, which are good for every occasion, while keeping your eyes and skin bare. Choose a bright purple shade and be bold when wearing it. Make sure your lips are lined and you are keeping the colour within the lines. Blot your lips and you are ready to go!

Look 5

Go monochrome

Monochrome make-up makes life easier. This look is achieved by dressing up your eyes, lips, and cheeks in the same colour palette.

Peach is a winning mono make-up trend. It is a year-round make-up shade, also a universal one that suits just about every skin tone. It is a super-neutral look which keeps you looking fresh and can be worn to work as well.

Look 6

Statement eyes

Coloured eyeliner can be daring at first glance but it will take your make-up game to the next level. Blue eyeliner enhances brown eyes too. Apply it on the waterline and smudge it out with a q-tip to get a softer look.

Eyelashes can be tricky. Use an eyelash curler to lift those lashes and apply a generous coat of mascara or two. Lash curlers are a game changer.

Keep the lips nude and matte.
