Eat Good Food, one of the first restaurants in Calcutta to break the myth that “health food cannot taste good”, turned two in December. To celebrate, its nutritionist owner Hena Nafis not only launched a “guilt-free” artisanal bakery menu but also got scenographer Swarup Dutta on board for a revamp of the interiors.
“There was a bit of a closedness about the space. I used to feel claustrophobic and when a friend told me the same I decided to go for a revamp. Swarup being a space expert, he was an obvious choice,” said Hena.
“As it is an old house, the interior had smaller compartments — all disjointed. There was no sense of cohesiveness. So I started breaking it up to create the sense of interconnectedness. We also added fun artworks to the walls, changed the lighting to slightly more warm and brought in vibrant colours to increase the cosiness of the space,” said Swarup.
In keeping with the restaurant’s ‘eat healthy’ philosophy, the new bake menu is “low-calorie, gluten-free, filled with natural ingredients with 60 per cent reduced sugar and fat”. From breads and lavash to brownies and cheesecakes, it’s a lot of baked goodness on offer.
