In Tamil Nadu, the CPI(M) announced its decision to participate in temple festivals. Party state secretary K. Balakrishnan said this was to “counter the dominance of the Sangh parivar”. The decision will be discussed in the 23rd state conference scheduled for March 30, 31 and April 1. The ruling DMK too has been making an effort to correct its anti-Hindu image. Recently, it allocated Rs 1,000 crore for renovation of temples in the state. The CPI(M)’s change of heart brings to mind an incident from the 1990s. It was rumoured that Ganesha was drinking milk. A journalist asked Jyoti Basu if he had heard of this. Basu replied: “Khachchhe khak (Let him).” Full Marx!
