I can’t use foundation since I have oily skin that tends to break into pimples. Using a compact is also not an option as it does not last at all. Please suggest how I can hide my blemishes without using any of these. Is there a way to get rid of the blemishes altogether?

Oily skin appears shiny all over, has few wrinkles but visibly open pores. The greasy surface is a trap for dust, dirt and make-up, making it prone to clogging up. It’s thus more vulnerable to breakouts, spots and blackheads. You don’t need to cover up pimples with make-up. You just need good skincare products that will heal your skin. Cleanse with a water-soluble purifying cleanser twice a day. If the breakout is mild, gently exfoliate to get rid of any dirt and grime on the skin’s surface that can clog the pores and cause breakouts. If you are having a major breakout, stay away from scrubs as they can damage the inflamed skin causing bacteria to spread. If you like using toner, use an alcohol-free, purifying toner. Follow it up with a gel-based moisturiser (preferably those that are marked oil-free or non-comedogenic).

Tips: Apply moisturiser very lightly. Massaging oily skin too much stimulates the oil glands to produce more sebum. If shine still slips through, blotting paper is great for mopping up. Dab a small amount of blemish treatment directing onto the blemishes — something with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide — and allow five minutes to absorb, then apply your moisturiser as normal. Use a purifying deep-cleansing clay mask or chilled natural yoghurt as a mask once a week to absorb excess oil and keep skin clean.
