A sprawling 6,000sq ft property? Check. A 24-ft wide screen for projection mapping? Check. Delectable menu? Check. The convenience of a Park Street address? Double check! Say hello to Club Carpe Diem, the newest pub on the block located in Calcutta’s dine-and-dance corridor, inside Stephen Court (same building as Flurys).

Conceptualised by Frollz co-owners and cousins Rudresh and Siddhant Agarwal, along with Shreekant Servaia, this two-storeyed chill zone could be the next big thing to unwind at.

The decor has a wooden theme, from the floor to the walls. Club Carpe Diem has four zones, of which the ground level houses two. As you walk in, the first section (above) has couches and bookshelves for a relaxed feel. The main section (below) has adjustable tables that can be elevated into bar tables, transforming the place into a dance floor on busy days. Overlooking this section is the mezzanine seating area and private section.

Snazzy visuals is the USP of Club Carpe Diem. Credit for this goes to the asymmetrical video wall, made up of eight TV screens. The adjacent wall has a 24-ft wide woodwork panel designed for 3D projection mapping. “We have, till date, not seen something like this in the city and we hope that our patrons like it. On big match days, we plan to roll down the screen on the 3D mapping wall so that matches are a better experience,” said Siddhant.

The entrance is flagged by the bar towards the right. If you are a Dragon Queen fan (think Game of Thrones), then this will catch the eye for sure as the bar panel has been innovatively textured with more than 3,000 circular stainless steel pieces to lend the appearance of dragon scales. In other words, breathe fire at the bar.

Great for photos, the #SeizeTheDay wall caught our eye. “When I was working on the place, the name Carpe Diem popped up and I decided to go ahead with it because we want our customers to walk in and forget about the worries of tomorrow, and just enjoy the moment. Hence Club Carpe Diem, or rather #SeizeTheDay,” chuckled Rudresh, a former co-owner of The Dugout on Sarat Bose Road.

Ideal for closed-door parties, this private section on the mezzanine floor has two exits. Done in leather upholstery and Victorian-style chairs, the section can seat at least 60 people. “We’ve done the walls in neatly-cut motifs on rose gold sheets, all of which we got readied in a factory in Mumbai. We wanted the place to have an opulent feel,” said Rudresh. This section also has a private bar and DJ console.

MUNCH MAP

Deep Sea Ocean @ Rs 549: “Ocean-fresh Alaska salmon marinated in cilantro pesto and cooked on the grill, served with Canadian wild rice pilaf, this is a seafood lover’s delight,” said executive chef Albert Gomes, whose CV includes working on cruise liners across the world.

Summer Time @ Rs 229: Tangy mango meets the creaminess of coconut and the freshness of mint in this wholesome mocktail.

Marinated Goodness @ Rs 259: A Jain special, this takes the good old broccoli, wraps it in a flavourful cashew paste and cooks it tenderly in the clay oven. Broccoli never tasted this good.

Blush @ Rs 190: A blend of orange, pineapple, strawberries, and cream, and garnished with fresh, sliced strawberries. Make the most of seasonal fruits.
