Webel Nicco is in talks with Thomson, the French consumer electronics major, for a strategic business alliance, following its former partner?s decision to shut down its Indian operations.
The company?s former business partner Grundig has stopped giving orders to the company for black & white (B&W) and colour television (CTVs) sets under the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) contract, following its decision to fold up Indian operations.
Webel Nicco has decided to reintroduce its old brand, Webel-Nicco in the market, for both B&W and CTV sets. Company sources say the brand will hit the market again before the forthcoming World Cup cricket.
The promoters?Nicco corporation and West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Corporation?are pumping in
Rs 1 crore into the joint venture company, to bring it back on track again.
The company used to produce around 8000 CTV sets for the German company Grundig per annum. Hence, a large part of its production capacity will remain idle following Grundig?s decision.
Bharat Hotels renaming off
The board of directors of InterContinental Hotels & Resorts has decided against renaming its hotels in the country as Grand InterContinental. The ?Grand? brandname was to be added from its Indian partner, Bharat Hotels.
Lalit Suri, chairman and managing director of Bharat Hotels and owner of the ?Grand? brandname, said the decision has been postponed for the time being.
