Vehicle dispatches up 21 per cent

The domestic wholesales (dispatches to dealers) of total passenger vehicles (PVs) have gone up 21 per cent year-on-year (y-oy) at 2.81 lakh units in August compared with 2.32 lakh units in the same month last year.

“While good monsoon and the upcoming festive season are likely to increase demand, SIAM is keeping a close watch on the dynamic supply-side challenges. High CNG prices are a big challenge for the industry and we keenly look forward to the kind interventions and support from the government,” Rajesh Menon, director-general of SIAM, said.

Passenger car wholesales were up 23 per cent at 1.33lakh units last month against1.08 lakh units in the year-ago period, SIAM said. Utility vehicle dispatches were higher20 per cent at 1.35 lakh units in August compared with 1.12lakh units in the same month a year ago.

Similarly, total two-wheeler wholesales increased to 15.5 lakh units last month from13.3 lakh units in the year-ago period, a growth of 16 per cent. Motorcycle wholesales grew 23 per cent to 10.1 lakh units in August 2022 from 8.2lakh units in the year-ago month.

Scooter sales were higher by 10 per cent at 5 lakh units last month against 4.6lakh units in August 2021, SIAM said. Total three-wheeler sales rose to 38,369 units last month, against 23,606 units in August2021, up 63 per cent.
