Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is taking a hit as it tries to absorb the cost of bringing out a BS-VI version of the Innova Crysta.

It recently opened the bookings for the BS-VI compliant version of its flagship MPV at a price range of Rs 15.36 lakh and Rs 24 lakh. The price difference between a BS-IV and a BS-VI Innova Crysta ranges from Rs 80,000 to Rs 1,12,000.

“These are introductory prices to create an interest and excitement about the product. The actual cost of the conversion is far more and the company is absorbing the costs and taking a hit to keep prices at this level,” said Naveen Soni, senior vice-president, sales and services, TKM.

On what was the actual cost of conversion, Soni said, “It was more than double the price difference.”

The company has decided to stop production of BS-IV vehicles from this month and will also discontinue its 2.8-litre engine used in these vehicles. The petrol and diesel variants of the BS-VI compliant Innova Crysta will be available in both the manual as well as automatic options.

Launched in 2016, the Innova Crysta has been a segment leader in the MPV segment.
