Instant messaging and collaboration platform Slack, which was acquired by NYSE-listed Salesforce in 2021, has introduced data residency for its customers in India.
“We have done this ahead of the Indian government introducing a regulatory data framework,” said Matt Loop, head of Slack Asia Pacific region (APAC) at a media briefing around their Frontiers research, which has thrown light on the workplace and businesses undergoing the hybrid change.
“Data residency is part of our ongoing investments in enterprise-grade security and we are excited that we can now offer those additional assurances to customers in India. We actually announced data residency in Australia in 2020 and we are continuing to explore additional regions where this might make sense for investment as customers who require this,” he said.
Data residency will allow customers of Slack in India to store their data within the country.
“While we don’t break down customer data per region, I can say that India is in the top 10 markets and is the third largest free user base for Slack globally.
“Many Indian companies have embraced Slack astheir digital HQ, including Zomato, Meesho, Razorpay, Freecharge and Dreamsports. With this announcement, Slack customers now have the choice of storing their data in India,” Rahul Sharma, country manager, of Slack India said in response to a query from The Telegraph.
