Calcutta, May 9: Nisaba Godrej, Adi Godrej's daughter, has been elevated to the top of Godrej Consumer Products, the flagship company of $4billion Godrej Group.

She will become the executive chairman of GCPL, owners of popular home care and personal care brands such as Good Knight and Cinthol, after Adi Godrej steps down from the executive role.

Thirty-nine-year-old Nisa, as she is called, follows her younger brother Pirojsha, who was elevated as the executive chairman of Godrej Properties, the real estate arm of one of Mumbai's largest landed Parsi families.

Adi Godrej, 75, will remain on the board of GCPL as chairman emeritus. GCPL clocked a consolidated turnover of Rs 9,608 crore in the last fiscal and a profit of Rs 1,307 crore.

The board of the company, which met today to declare the financial result and leadership change, also announced a bonus of one share for every share held.

"This is an opportune time to transition to a new chairperson, who will lead the company in its next phase of growth. I feel very confident that Nisa will be an outstanding executive chairperson... I will continue to serve the GCPL board and contribute in whatever way I can to GCPL's success and long term growth," Adi Godrej said in a statement.

Nisa is married to Kalpesh Mehta, founder and managing partner of Tribeca Developers, the company which brought the Trump real estate brand to India.

Nisa will work with Vivek Gambhir, managing director and CEO of GCPL.

Adi continues to be the chairman of Godrej Industries, the other listed entity of the group and the holding company of several businesses such as GCPL and Godrej Properties and unlisted Godrej Agrovet. His eldest daughter Tanya Dubash is the executive director of Godrej Industries and the chief brand officer.

Nadir Godrej, younger brother of Adi, is the managing director of Godrej Industries. He is also the chairman of Godrej Agrovet. Jamshyd Godrej, cousin of Adi and Nadir, is the chairman of unlisted Godrej & Boyce, which makes furniture, home appliances and security solutions. The three brothers sit on the board of all major companies of the group.

A statement from GCPL called Harvard Business School alumni Nisa the key architect of GCPL's strategy and transformation in the last decade.

"Over the last 10 years, GCPL's market capitalisation has increased twenty-fold - from Rs 3,000 crore to Rs 60,000 crore. Under Nisaba's leadership, GCPL has developed a very strong, engaged and ambitious team, and consistently ranked as a great place to work. She has served on the GCPL board since 2011," the statement said.

"I look forward to the continued guidance of the chairman emeritus to our board, Vivek and me, as we drive GCPL forward with deep ambition, hard work and a strong sense of purpose," Nisa said in the statement.

Her previous assignments within the Godrej Group have included the successful turnaround of Godrej Agrovet and the creation of a Group strategy function to oversee the Group's portfolio, the statement noted.
