A 19kg cylinder will cost Rs 1,870 in Calcutta from January. Prices were reduced seven times from June to November, but were were kept unchanged in December.

Commercial LPG cylinder is used by hotels, restaurants and other business establishments. In seven cuts, rates had previously come down by Rs 610 per 19-kg cylinder.

Commercial LPG rates have largely been aligned with cost and so they have moved in tandem with the rise and fall in international prices.

Rates differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes.

India’s petrol and diesel demand soared in December as increased consumption in the agriculture sector helped build on the momentum generated by the festive season, preliminary industry data showed on Sunday.

Petrol sales soared 8.6 per cent to 2.76 million tonnes (mt) in December compared with 2.54 mt of consumption in the same month last year.

Diesel posted a 13 per cent rise in sales in December to 7.3mt.
