a superb choice

q: I can’t decide between the Skoda Superb 1.8 TSi and 4x4 V6. I am keen to know whether the V6 is worth it for occasional blasts down the hills.

Hardev Singh Sandhu

a: The V6 is truly a blast to drive but we don’t feel it is worth the extra Rs 8 lakh (approx.) over the standard 1.8 TSi which offers adequate performance. The 1.8 TSi also has a seven-speed DSG gearbox (the V6 DSG is a six-speeder) which maximises performance and the marginally higher-profile tyres on the 1.8 TSi are more practical especially on bad roads. The V6 is a bit too heavy, too thirsty and too pricey and only makes sense if you want ultimate performance and nothing else.

swift pleasure

q: I want a petrol or diesel hatch within Rs 4.5 lakh for weekend drives. It needs to transport four adults in comfort, be good value for money, perform well and offer good mileage too. Low-cost maintenance and good resale values are also priority. Please advise.

Savio DaSilva

a: The Swift VXi is your best bet as it has everything you need except the interior space. However, it is still good enough for four adults. We would advise you to stretch your budget and go for the Swift ZXi as it comes with airbags and ABS.
