Patna: Patna police arrested a youth for allegedly operating a fake Facebook account of Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj.

The youth, who earlier worked as a photographer for a news portal, had uploaded objectionable videos and some objectionable comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the fake account.

A few days back, Patna police received information that SSP Maharaaj's Facebook account was being operated by another person. With the help of a cyber crime expert, they came to know that the account was being handled by Anand Kumar, a resident of Chotki Balia under Bikram police station area of rural Patna. He was arrested on Wednesday. The account has since been deactivated.

"After his arrest, the youth tried to misguide the police, claiming he was a big fan of me," Maharaaj said. "But if he was indeed influenced by me, why was he posting objectionable posts and videos ? It was just an attempt to tarnish my image." The youth was arrested under various sections of the IT Act.

The youth had several persons, including girls and women, as friends in the fake account which he used for vulgar chats. Politicians, cops, businessmen, college students and journalists were also on his list. Anand had also created a fake Whatsapp ID using SSP Maharaaj's photograph. "He created the fake Facebook account to create an impression among friends and neighbours and seek undue advantages from them," a police officer said on condition of anonymity. Two years back Patna police had arrested Vedant, from Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh, for running a fake Facebook account of SSP Maharaaj.
