The “pretty women” are back to crack the whip on roadside Romeos and keep the streets safe for their sisters during the Durga Puja.
Six police teams — comprising mostly woman constables and sub-inspectors — will patrol busy areas in Patna during the days of Durga Puja and Dussehra.
The special teams were constituted two years back and named “pretty women”. They function under the anti-eve-teasing cell of Patna police.
A police officer said: “There are six anti-eve-teasing teams. Each of these teams has a woman sub-inspector and two constables, along with two male constables. The teams have been successful in nabbing three chain snatchers since the cell was constituted.”
The police have come up with a unique plan to trap chain snatchers.
The woman police personnel would dress in civil clothes and wear a gold chain, provided to them by the department. “It will be difficult for the criminals to identify the policewomen. Their male colleagues will accompany them on the patrol, but at a distance,” said the officer.
Besides the crowded streets and pandals, makeshift eateries will also be on the radar of the police.
“A lot of makeshift eateries are set up on the days of the festival. Quick Mobile teams have been instructed to keep an eye on these as a lot of people throng these,” said another police officer.
He added the police hope for the co-operation of the Puja committees.
“The number of constables in the anti-ever-teasing cell would be increased if necessary,” said the officer.
