Patna, Sept. 14: Sanjay Singh of Paliganj, once arrested, could help unearth why all fake arms licences lead to Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir, 1,645 km from Patna.

The police believe he is the kingpin behind the fake arms licences. Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaj told The Telegraph attempts were on to nab him. “In the past few weeks, the police have nabbed many private security guards found carrying arms with fake licences. Most of the licences were issued from Udhampur district, bearing the district administration’s stamp,” Maharaj said. The Telegraph had reported about these arrests on September 5.

“The matter is serious. In the course of investigation, the cops came to know about one Sanjay Singh. Security guards said it was Sanjay who provided them these arms licences for money. The police are making all possible efforts to nab him,” the officer said.

“The police raided his house in Paliganj, about 20km from Patna, but he was not present at the time. But the police recovered many fake licences and rubber stamps there. They are still itching to crack the Udhampur link. A fake licence could bear the name of any place in the country. But over 95 per cent fake licences the police recovered were issued in Udhampur. A few bore the stamp of the Nagaland district administration,” said another police officer.
