Dowry murder suspected in deaths of two women

Patna: A 22-year-old woman Pooja Kumari was allegedly murdered on Thursday night by her in-laws for dowry demands. The body has been sent to the Nalanda Medical College for a post-mortem.

The deceased's father, Narayan Sao, a resident of Arfabad Colony under the jurisdiction of Alamganj police station in Patna City lodged an FIR in this connection on Friday.

According to the FIR lodged, Sao had married off his daughter Pooja in July 2017 to Sunny Kumar, a resident of Bhaisani Tola under the jurisdiction of Malsalami police station in Patna City.

Just after marriage, Pooja's in-laws had started torturing her for dowry and had demanded Rs 4 lakh from Sao, the FIR stated .

According to the FIR , on July 10, 2018, Sao went to Pooja's in-laws' house and told them that he cannot give the money and that he had sold his house for Pooja's marriage. However, Pooja's in-laws were adamant on their demand to which Sao said that he could only shell out a maximum of Rs 20,000 for them.

In the FIR, Sao had alleged that her daughter was killed as he could not provide Rs 4 lakh to her in-laws' family.

As soon as Sao got the news of his daughter's death, he reached her house at night. However, he was abused by the members of the house, the FIR stated.

In the FIR, Pooja's husband Sunny, Sunny's elder brother, Sunny's elder brother's wife and their parents have been made the named accused.

Malasalami police station house officer (SHO) Prem Raj Chouhan told The Telegraph: "Sunny as well as his father Bhama Sao and mother Meena Devi have been arrested. The body has been sent for a post-mortem."

Sao said Pooja has a one-month-old baby.
