Patna, Sept. 1: The RJD today accused deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi of purchasing property worth Rs 51,19,000 through his elder brother R.K. Modi, who allegedly owns shell companies.

Terming Modi a big liar, the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, came out with the alleged documents showing how Sushil had transferred the power of attorney for purchasing the flats to R.K. Modi and his two sons, Mayank Raj Modi and Rohit Raj Modi.

However, The Telegraph could not verify the authenticity of the documents circulated among journalist at Tejashwi's 10 Circular Road residence.

Tejashwi asked for a clarification from Sushil and said: 'Sushil Modi ji had once said that he was into full-time politics and knows nothing about what his brother or relatives do. If Sushil Modi is so honest, can he tell me why he chose the company of his elder brother to purchase the property if he has nothing do with his elder brother's business?'

In the past too, the RJD and its leaders like national spokesperson Manoj Jha had levelled charges that Sushil Modi has laundered his black money through his brother's firm. That time, Sushil had rubbished the charges, saying he had nothing to do with his brother's business.

Senior party leader and former parliamentarian Jagdanand Singh, who read out the document, alleged that the timing of Sushil Modi becoming deputy chief minister in 2006 and the purchase of property is crucial.

'Sushil and his wife purchased a flat in Ghaziabad worth Rs 14,49,000 on June 6, 2006, on the housing plot of Saket Estate Private Ltd which is owned by his elder brother R.K. Modi.

From his side, Sushil asked his elder brother to sign the land document giving him power of attorney. The land document does not have any details that how the flat was purchased, either through cheque or cash.

On May 21, 2015, that flat was sold to one Nitin Gupta for Rs 85,00000. If Sushil had no business with his elder brother, why did he purchase the flat through his brother's company?' asked Jagdananad.

However, the flat which the RJD leaders talked about was already mentioned in the affidavit papers of Sushil Modi. But the RJD leaders tried to corner Sushil over his claim that he had no business with his elder brother.

Jagdanand said: 'On March 27, 2010, Sushil and his wife purchased another flat for Rs 3,67,0000 in Gautam Buddh Nagar from the holding company Ashiana Homes Private Ltd owned his elder brother RK Modi. In this, the power of attorney was given to R.K. Modi's two sons, Mayank and Rohit. Can Sushil say why he chose his elder brother's company who runs at least seven subsidiary shell companies?'

He also said that in the coming days, the RJD will come out with several more documents in which the conflict of interest and related party transition is visible at large.

Tejashwi asked why did Sushil's elder brother R.K. Modi's company Ashiana Landcraft Reality Pvt Ltd allowed a person like Lalit Kumar Chhawchharia, who is involved in money laundering, to be the company director.

Tejashwi alleged that Sushil was MP from Bhagalpur from 2004 to 2005 and it would be probed whether he had purchased the flat from the Srijan scam money.

On August 30, 2017, Sushil had levelled fresh corruption charges on RJD chief Lalu Prasad alleging that a party man, Mohammad Shamim, was made an MLC in the past in return for making a will of a prime land in Patna in the name of Tejashwi and his elder brother Tej Pratap Yadav.

Sushil rubbished the allegations and said: 'I had purchased the flat after taking a loan from ICICI Bank of Rs 10 lakh and the rest I paid through cheque. I have always given the details to the Election Commission as well the income tax department. First, Lalu Prasad should say how Rabri Devi purchased 18 flats and his son Tejashwi Yadav became the owner of 26 properties at the age of 26?'

He further said: 'If Lalu wants I can visit his house and can give each and every detail of my property and sources of income. Can Lalu, Tejashwi and Rabri give details and source of income of their thousands of crores of benaami property? Can he explain why leaders gift him their lands? Making baseless allegations will not hide their sins.
