Patna: Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Sunday said chief minister Nitish Kumar was out to destroy students' career, attacking the government over delay in textbook distribution.
The leader of Opposition in the Assembly said students who will sit for their examinations next month had received their textbooks in February. He was addressing a gathering at Daniyawan in Patna district, after garlanding the statue of late social worker Satyanarayan Singh Bhagat.
"Examination of different classes (classes V-IX) will be held next month but the books are being distributed in February. It proves that the entire education system has collapsed in the state. I want to ask Nitishji why the books were not distributed in the last 10 months? It seems Nitish ji wants to destroy careers of the students," said Tejashwi.
Around 2 crore students will take the exam in March.
An official in the education department said on condition of anonymity that students got their textbooks late because the printing papers that come from Assam were not bought on time for which the books could not be printed on time.
"The students took their half-yearly examination this session without their textbooks and now they will face a similar situation in the final exam as well," Tejaswhi said, taunting "susashan babu" Nitish must be rewarded for his helplessness in the education sector in the next elections.
Addressing the people from Daniyawan Bazar - where once his father Lalu Prasad spoke as leader of opposition in 1989 - Tejashwi did not miss the opportunity to attack Nitish over law and order.
"Nitish ji has cheated the people's mandate and his daily activities prove he has become anti-Dalits. Our Dalit MLAs are being targeted by Nitish's people and fear among common people is looming large," Tejashwi, accompanied by RJD MLA Shakti Singh Yadav and Rekha Devi, said.
The JDU did not stay quiet to Tejashwi's charges.
JDU MLC and spokesperson Sanjay Singh said the word "education" did not suit Tejashwi.
"Tejashwi should not take the name of Nitish ji and he should also not talk about education because it does not suit him. The CBI raided his (Tejashwi) house and Nitishji is not someone who has benami (unaccounted) property like Lalu Prasad and family. Tejashwi started his political career with corruption and his talk of serving the people of Bihar is just a show," Sanjay said.
