The contrast of styles between RJD chief Lalu Prasad's sons, deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav and health minister Tej Pratap Yadav, became evident on Thursday.
Last Wednesday, Tejashwi listened to the grievances of party workers from across the state under the RJD's new initiative in which every week one minister from the party will meet the cadres. Thursday was his elder brother Tej's turn.
Tej got down from the dais and mingled with party workers, unlike his younger brother who met the cadres onstage. The health minister's attire also drew attention.
"It is matter of great happiness that the young and energetic leader Tej Pratapji has come in dhoti and kurta to attend this programme," said party state unit president Ram Chandra Purbey, who on Wednesday announced his decision to retire from electoral politics.
"He is wearing the traditional dress of a politician and he wants to look like us that's why he has chosen to wear this. We must give a big applause to him."
Chants of "Tej Pratap Yadav zindabad" followed.
There was also none of the chaos that happened at Tejashwi's meeting, where Lalu's close aide Bhola Yadav had to do crowd control when party rushed to submit their application to the deputy CM on the stage.
Tejashwi had spoken at length and the programme had lasted for around two-and-a-half hours; Tej barely spoke for five minutes, and the programme lasted one hour and fifteen minutes as fewer people were present in comparison to last Wednesday.
"I have seen the applications in which people are demanding referral hospital, medical college and other things. I will try to redress them to the best of my abilities," Tej said in Hindi.
After meeting the party workers, he spent 15 minutes in Purbey's chamber.
When the minister got into his car to leave, slogans of "Tej Pratap Yadav zindabad" rent the air again.
