Patna, April 3: Celebrations are incomplete without sweets. So, after Team India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni lifted the World Cup at Wankhede, the Patna residents spontaneously decided kuchh meetha ho jaye (let’s have something sweet). The morning after, sweets showered. From politicians to aam admi (masses), all distributed sweet something.

Besides offering sweets to each other, a number of citizens thronged temples to thank gods for the blessings they bestowed on their favourite team. Bankipore BJP MLA Nitin Navin today offered 51kg besan laddoo at the Hanuman temple near Patna Junction.

“This was my wish. I had decided that if India won the World Cup, I would offer laddoo at the temple. This is a special laddoo,” said Navin.

He said: “I am a great cricket fan. I love to see Sachin Tendulkar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni bat. As you know, Team India has dedicated this World Cup to Sachin. So I have every reason to celebrate.

“India winning the Cup is like a dream come true for the whole nation. I am sure everyone must be feeling proud. I watched every ball of the game yesterday with my party members. It was great,” added the MLA.

A group of enthusiastic cricket fans also distributed 101kg sweets at the temple. They carried large posters of Dhoni and Virender Sehwag, and beat drums to express their happiness.

Chaturbhuj Prasad, a member of the group, said: “Distributing laddoos and sweets are symbolic. We are delighted. We were waiting to celebrate this occasion.”

A number of cricket lovers of the city took out a motorbike procession to celebrate India’s win. They distributed 100kg laddoo among people. The procession started at Do Pulia and culminated at Bhikhari Thakur Bridge via Mithapur, Jakkanpur and Goriamath.

Jakkanpur resident Sunil Gupta said: “Our friends pooled in and bought the sweets. The Indian team has achieved cricketing glory. The Men in Blue have made us very proud.

“Several people were saying that the final did not matter as we had defeated archrivals Pakistan in the semi-final. But by winning the final Dhoni & Co. has taken us on a different high. You cannot compare anything with it,” added Gupta.

Sweet celebrations of a sweet victory. Thank you, Men in Blue.
