Students of higher classes and their parents fear that an extension of their winter vacation would pose problems in covering their school syllabus.

The district administration on December 23 had directed all schools to remain closed till January 1 owing to the severe cold.

Teachers, too, echoed similar sentiments. A section of them feel that classes could be held for them from 10am.

Geeta Sinha, a teacher said: “Classes can be taken for senior students after 9.30 or 10, as it is not so cold at that time.”

Class XI student Shushant said: “Our session starts in June-July and we have a big syllabus. If it is very cold, classes can be started later in the day.”

Ashish Sinha, a parent, said: “My child studies in Class VIII. He dances well and takes part in several school events. He misses classes owing to dance rehearsals. The extended vacation would affect his studies even more. It should be ensured that the vacations are not extended.”

Another parent Rakesh Kumar said: “My child studies in Class XII. His syllabus is yet to be completed. The extension of the vacation would affect his preparations.”

P.S. Ambastha, the vice-principal of May Flower School, said: “Schools should be closed in case of bad weather . However, classes should be held for considering the vast syllabus of higher classes.”
