A special drive is on in the district to include names of more women and youths in the electoral rolls.

The male-female voter ratio in Gaya parliamentary constituency, comprising 10 Assembly segments, is 1,000:878.

Booths having less than 878 women voters will be identified and names of left-out women voters will be added to the list. Also, camps will be organised at colleges on September 6 and 10 to add names of youths. Non-resident Indians can apply online to add their names. The NRIs do not need an elector’s photo identity card (EPIC). They can cast their votes by just showing their passports.

District magistrate-cum-returning officer, Balamurugan D. admitted the ratio of women to men in Gaya parliamentary constituency was abysmal and a special drive would be launched across the constituency on September 8 and 15 to add names of voters who have been left out.

A camp will be organised in colleges, under the systematic voter’s education and electoral participation (SVEEP) programme to add the names of young voters.

Gautam Buddha Mahila College in Gaya would hold the camp on September 6. Similar camps will be organised at Mahanth Satyanand Giri College, Sherghati, Mahila College, Tekari and Sitaram College, Khisersarai, on September 10. Existing voters’ list has been made available to all 2,871 polling booths of the parliamentary constituency.

Altogether, 127 new booths have been added to the constituency from the 2,744 during the 2009 parliamentary elections. Those wanting to add names to voters’ list or correct name, sex, age or addresses have been invited between September 2 and October 1. The claims will be disposed of by November 15.

Voters whose names have not been included to the voters’ list or want to make corrections in existing EPICs can also apply online at the election commission website: http://eci.nic.in.

Deputy election officer Naushad Alam said the district administration has completed steps for electoral roll revision. To ensure success, booth level officers (BLOs) have been trained. Anganwadi sevikas and sahayikas have also been trained to assist them.

In Gaya, 97.61 percent of EPICs have photos and the target is to make it cent per cent. Addition and corrections apart, names of absentee, shifted and dead voters will be deleted.
