The police chiefs of eight districts are set to face action for their failure to ensure timely disposal of applications submitted to their offices under the Right to Public Service (RTPS) Act.
The delay in providing services to the people under the RTPS within a stipulated period in these districts came to the fore during review of the performance of the departments concerned at a high-level meeting at the state headquarters on Monday.
The districts, whose performances were found not up to the mark are Gopalganj, Aurangabad, Lakhisarai, Jamui, Munger, Bhagalpur, Madhubani and Saharsa. The superintendents of police of the districts concerned have been asked to clear all the pending applications by April 30.
A letter issued by the Home (police) department on Tuesday stated that the police chiefs of these districts were apprised of pending applications by the department on March 14 after a review meeting. However, no action was taken on their part to dispose of the applications, the letter read.
The letter issued by the joint secretary of the home (police) department, Rajiv Ranjan Sinha, stated that the pendency of the complaints should be brought to nil by the end of this month. Gopalganj has the highest number of pending applications (1,951) followed by Aurangabad (822), Lakhisarai (353), Jamui (261), Munger (240), Bhagalpur (231), Madhubani (149) and Saharsa (139).
At a review meeting chaired by chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday, it was decided to notify nodal officers in revenue and land reforms department, social welfare, food and consumer protection, home, general administration, transport, urban development and housing, commercial taxes, education, registration and excise and prohibition department.
Principal secretary of general administration department Dharmendra Singh Gangwar said the decision to notify nodal officers was aimed at expediting the process of rendering services to the people.
