Metal detectors and closed-circuit television cameras will be installed at Gandhi Maidan.

Principal secretary Sinha said 300 primary schools would be awarded for their excellent work, while Gaya’s Anugrah Kanya Uchcha Vidyalaya would also be awarded for following all the norms of Quality Council of India.

Among colleges in the state, Magadh Mahila College from Patna and four colleges from the districts would also be honoured.

Four more colleges — RDS College from Muzaffarpur, RK College from Madhubani, MS College from Motihari and RM College from Saharsa — would be honoured. These institutions have received B grade from Naac.

Among the events planned is a science exhibition with an aim to attract children to the three-day celebrations.

At the news meet to announce the plans for the education day celebrations, he also focused on midday meals.

“Students at 96 per cent schools are being provided midday meals. At present, just 1,816 schools are not covered under the scheme,” he said.

Focusing on the steps the government has taken in the education sector, Sinha said: “Bihar would be the first state in the country to give every girl a scholarship. The cabinet has approved Rs 1,120 crore for the purpose and the scholarships would be given to 1.07 crore girls. The girls would also get school dress and bicycles.”
